Tryng to emulate the greats.

Howdy,

After receiving Joseph's Book, I decided to run through one of his step-by-step paintings to see if anything could be learned. I was a bit sceptical based on not wanting to 'copy' as such, but boy was  I wrong? It is an invaluable lesson. Reading though his steps is like being taught by the man himself.I strongly   urge anyone to try to do as many of these exercises as they can. I'll be doing more, that is for sure. Here is my first attempt. Not too shabby. I think it'll really help in development of colour harmony and composition. Fantastic fun.. What do you think?

Zbukvic's is on the left of course.

  1. Very interesting results! The style is your own, but the mood and atmosphere are so similar. I'm intrigued to try to find a copy of this book! Have you read "Steal Like an Artist" by Austin Kleon? There are some interesting bits about the learning benefits of copying your hero's work. Thanks for sharing!
