The 30/30 challenge is done and dusted!

Well, it is over. The 30 paintings in 30 days challenge has come and gone and I must say that I am more than a little relieved. I am sick of painting rivers. Haha. I cannot wait to get stuck into some different subject matter and see how the skills have come along in that time. When I stop and think about painting,I do feel more confident in my general ability to make it work but I guess we'll see. 

So how did the paintings end up? Overall, I reckon I had about 60% of the 30'paintings that I ended up happy with. I learned to work a lot more loose and quickly which resulted in some great moments but overall I still found that my tendency to "fiddle" was still prevelant so I did lose some of those moments too. 

I found the challenge fun but somewhat stressful in as far as feeling a little pressure to get the work done. My wife is happy that it is over. Haha. 

What would I do differently next time? 
I think I wouldn't narrow myself into a theme. I thought it'd make it easier, but really it gets a little boring by the end. Aside from that, I wouldn't change a thing. Great learning curve and I'm really looking forward to the next one to see how I've developed.

Hi guys, I've decided to bite the bullet and sign up for Leslie Saeta's 30 in 30 Challenge for September. I'd recommend to give it a go. I'm looking forward to it a great deal and am keen to see some progression in that time. I've chosen a theme of "Rivers of the World". I think the theme will make it easier to prepare for and really see some advancement in technique when tackling the same kind of subject matter over and over. I'm going to choose various sizes along the way too. I figure is way ill use up scrappy smaller pieces of paper that are laying around as well as some larger works. I plan to keep them very loose and lively and I'll try not to get bogged down in detail. This should be a great learning curve and an excellent way of connecting with the worldwide art community and ultimately, increase the fan base to hopefully sell more work and step away from the day job.. A quiet week.

After being a bit crook last week, I've had a real quiet one this week. Work and not much else. Today is ANZAC day here is Australia. A public holiday, but yep, I'm off to work. ANZAC day is always quiet at work so fingers crossed I'll finally get into my Turner book. I basically know the broad strokes of his story but I hope to get a few details into my memory bank. He is my favourite and I know that is a hard thing to pinpoint but no other work gets me like his. I don't like photo-realism in painting. I reckon you should just go take a photo. Sure I get the talent and patience it would take to achieve the results but for me, it just seems a waste. I like vibe. I like atmosphere. I like it when you can look at it and imagine yourself there. Not in a wanky art way, but my yardstick is always that if I walk past a painting, it suggests that it doesn't grab me.
