Winterlude - 10 Years On
I was fortunate enough to travel a couple of hours down the freeway to Sydney last week to check out an exhibition of work from five fantastic artists, three of which are among my absolute favourites. In the Winterlude exhibit, held at Artarmon Galleries, you get to peruse the work of Joseph Zbukvic, Herman Pekel, Alvaro Castagnet, Nic Canosa and Patrick Carroll. What can I say? The work was both beyond inspirational and in some cases, beyond amazing. Incredible. Having only seen their work on computer and TV screens up to this point, it was truly an eye-opener to see them in the flesh. The detail (or lack there of) that you miss on the screen is what makes all the difference. What I mean by that is the middle ground detail in a lot of their work is all based around correct perspective and tone. The detail of a crowded cafe, for example, is merely a combination of brush strokes and shapes made with the right tones and the right proportions. It is staggering at how important the ...
